Antique 12ft x 6ft Mahogany Snooker Table by G Wright & Co



Antique full size Mahogany turned leg snooker table by George Wright & Co, circa 1880s in near original condition. This table has 8 tulip finely Carved legs, top fitting flush pocket plates; cushion buttons, solid mahogany cover plates and 2" bolted Welsh slate bed.  A fine quality 12ft mahogany Snooker/Billiard table with wonderful carved legs. The playing surface is a slate bed covered in green playing cloth. One of the end cushion rails has an ivory plaque with the maker’s details on "George Wright & Co., 158 - 164 Westminster Bridge Road, London." The leg bolts and cushion bolts are hidden by hand turned mahogany fittings. The pockets are leather covered with string net with the brass work being set into the top surface of the cushions.

 

This company was founded in 1868 and by 1880s George Wright and Co was operating from 158-164 Westminster Bridge Road. London. Also they were claiming by the mid 1880's to have the largest showroom in England with over "100 tables in stock. It is also reported that in 1890 Geo. Wright made a special Billiard table at a lower height to suit W.J. Peall who was 'short in stature'. John Roberts comment was - ' There is no doubt that a tall man is under nearly as much disadvantage with the present table as a short man was under a table of the pre Peall height'. They were renowned for making quality Billiard Tables
